my stance on social media

Sometimes I wonder why I decided that Blogging on my site, where any visitor can read it, was better than using my paper diary that I update thrice a year at most. Perhaps I subconsciously desire to be heard —read, in this case. Yes, that seems like the most plausible reason. I want people to know I exist, even if their entire perception of my existence is words on a website.
I don't quite use social media (quite is important) except that I do, because I have facebook, instagram, Twitter (I refuse to call it X), snapchat, tumblr, etc. Except that I only use Tumblr, to look at fanart and read x reader smut. My Facebook page is used by my mother impersonating as me and adding pictures that I do not want to be added. Like my graduation pictures. Not to mention, Facebook likes to bring old pictures back to the surface so all my distant relatives that I didn't even know existed can comment emoji gifs. I hate facebook.
I think that Instagram only serves a purpose if you have friends and you want people to know what you've been up to, and to send fire emoji to people you don't know but would like to fuck. I wouldn't know. Since I have no friends, irl or online, Instagram serves no purpose to me. But I did meet my only partner on there (actually, I became aware of her on wattpad because we were both avid readers of the works of a American Revolution RPF writer. I saw her all the time in the comments) but we started talking in Instagram. And that was it. We lasted 9 months, living in different continents. Safe to say, we never met. But still, we ended it on good terms.
I've only used Twitter to look at porn and to see when the streamers I used to follow would be live. And any other social media sites aren't worth mentioning. When I tell people that I haven't got Instagram or Snapchat but I can add them on whattsapp, they are slightly surprised, and it certainly does not surprise me, but it slightly bothers me. We can talk just as well on whatsapp, so I don't get why they say "you don't have instagram?" like it's something unfathomable.
I will admit, social media is useful when you want to know someone before you know them. It is common to ask for someone's socials and look through their posts before sending a message and starting a conversation. Not to mention that many people get to know one another online, even if they've seen the other person in "real life". It's far less intimidating to get to know someone online, as opposed to just coming up to them in person.
In my opinion, to get ahead in life on this day and age you need to use social media platforms, not to mention the internet. Which is unfair, but the world goes on, and progress is inevitable. You could use a horse carriage to get around instead of a car, but not only will it be more difficult than simply using a vehicle, there will be roads that you won't be able to cross. Does that make sense, or am I sidetracking? Basically, we humans are doomed to use technology to do anything, and it will not change, it will get worse and we as a society will have to put up with it. We could rebel. If the French and the Americans did it centuries ago, why can't we. I think that they had more balls than today's humanity, but maybe I'll be proved wrong. Who knows.
